

Tiffin University is excited to announce a new program for the 2009-2010 Club Sports season. Wrestling is now one of our featured athletic programs and starting for the 2010-2011 season will be come a varsity sport. All incoming freshmen/transfers will be the face of this exciting program, and because it is a club team for the first year, there is a chance to essentially train for a year without using up any eligibility. Doug Jesse enters his first season as the head wrestling coach at Tiffin University. He is responsible for all aspects of the program.
Jesse returns to Tiffin after coaching for four years in Staten Island, NY at Division I Wagner College, where he served as the head wrestling coach for the Seahawks. He had previously coached at Division III Heidelberg College as an assistant coach for one year.
Jesse is no stranger to the mat, as he was a four-year member of the Cornell University wrestling team, helping the Big Red to three Ivy League titles in his four years. Jesse graduated with a bachelor of science in Human Development in 2004. He has Masters Degrees in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2/Special Education) and Childhood Education (Grades 1-6/Special Education) from Wagner College.
A local product of Hopewell-Loudon High School, Jesse graduated in 2000 as a four-time State qualifier. He twice placed second in the finals as a freshman and a senior. He also had a third place finish as a junior.
In addition to his head coaching responsibilities, Jesse has been active on the summer camp circuit, previously serving as an instructor at the Cornell and Hopewell-Loudon High School wrestling camps.
Graduate Assistant Coach Sam WendlandSamuel Wendland is beginning his first season as a graduate assistant for Tiffin University.
A native of Bozeman, MT, Wendland wrestled for the University of Wyoming where he was a two time conference champion and two time NCAA I national qualifier. Wendland graduated from UW with a degree in Physical Education.

We are committed to helping each student-athlete accomplish his goals and dreams and reach for excellence both on the mat and in the classroom. The participation in athletic contests further contributes to the development of a well-rounded individual who is fully prepared to meet the demands and challenges of life beyond the confines of one's college career. Our goal is for each student-athlete to graduate from university life prepared through academic achievement and athletic involvement to be successful in all walks of life.
The University is committed to building a competitive and successful team by drawing student-athletes who are prepared to meet the physical and academic rigors presented. It is our aim to be a first choice for student-athletes looking to compete at the NCAA Division II level. By focusing on techniques, tactics, yearly training plans, strength and conditioning, skill development, leadership, teamwork, integrity, sportsmanship, and nutrition, we will help our student-athletes succeed at the collegiate level. These skills will be critical to the educational and personal development of students in keeping with the high standards of Tiffin, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Midwest Region, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Tiffin University wrestling team promotes pride and unity within the university community and provides opportunities to develop, strengthen, and maintain ties to individuals such as alumni, friends, the educational community, and the general public by attracting interest, recognition, and support.
