From June 10 to June 12, Tiffin University’s School of Business, Drone Academy and Esports Team will host a Drone and Esports Summer Camp for youth ages 12 and up.

All participants will receive their own personal drone and backup battery. Participants will also be exposed to a variety of digital and cloud-based applications, such as basic coding for flying or racing drones. Coaching instruction, free play, simulations and a mini-tournament will enhance campers’ skills in and knowledge of esports. Campers can choose between playing the games Rocket League, Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch or Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.

“We look forward to having students on campus so they can leverage and learn the latest drone technology,” said Owen Fritz, Drone Academy Director and Assistant Professor of Computer Science. “The use of drones is predicted to grow in a big way over the next 10 years, with pilots needed. This camp will give students a head start on their drone education, which includes learning the basics of programming.”

“Anyone even a little knowledgeable about gaming will love attending the 2024 Drone and Esports Camp,” said Dr. Bonnie Tiell, Professor of Sport Management. “Practicing and competing in the Esports Arena is a great experience. Just a few short years ago, WTOL Channel 11 ran the headline, ‘TU opens the largest collegiate esports arena in the country.’ Maybe we aren’t the biggest arena anymore, but we are still one of the best with over 4000 square feet of pure gaming fun!”

The cost of the program is $400 per participant. Each camper will be in a single, air-conditioned room in a residence hall. Meals will be served in the Cole Dining Hall. Space is limited to 25 campers, so interested students are encouraged to register as soon as possible. For the full itinerary, registration and additional information, visit tiffin.edu/admissions/camps.
