Rep. Reineke Applauds Funding for the Maritime Risk Symposium

State Representative Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin) applauded funding recently approved through the passage of the state operating budget for the Maritime Risk Symposium to be hosted at Tiffin University.

8th Annual Maritime Risk Symposium

The 8th Annual Maritime Risk Symposium will highlight the importance of maritime security and the maritime transportation system. Modern-day threats and challenges in the maritime industry underscore the importance of this symposium, which will bring together experts on all levels of government to discuss sound maritime cyber strategy through various panels focused on topics such as education, research and legal issues.

Rep Reineke stated: “This is a unique opportunity for Tiffin University to display their talents in the fields of security and cyber security. This is exciting to welcome governmental experts to our community from all over the nation. Through this symposium, we can establish Tiffin’s place on the national scene with regard to cyber security research, training and education.”

The $25,000 in funding appropriated through the budget will help to plan, market and facilitate the symposium, which is expected to be a boon to the local economy when it takes place in November of 2017 in Seneca County. Through innovation, collaboration, sector development and global talent attraction, the event is a special opportunity for researchers and authorities to examine threats, vulnerabilities and recent advancements in the industry to influence innovative techniques in the future.

Rep. Reineke helped to secure funding for the event through the state operating budget bill, which was officially signed by Governor John Kasich on June 30, 2017.
