Tiffin University to Break Ground on New Center for Innovation and Learning

Tiffin University has announced plans to host a formal groundbreaking ceremony in honor of the commencement of construction for its new Center for Innovation and Learning. The event is set to take place May 3 at 4 p.m. at 150 Miami St., in the courtyard behind Tiffin University’s Main classroom building.

The Center for Innovation and Learning will feature 14 state-of-the-art classrooms and a new boardroom. It will also house the Gary and Laura Robinette Center for Entrepreneurship, equipped with cutting-edge technology and resources, serving as a hub for partnership with the local and regional community.

“Tiffin University’s Center for Innovation and Learning marks a pivotal moment in our institution’s commitment to educational excellence,” said Tiffin University President, Dr. Lillian Schumacher. “With over 30,000 square feet dedicated to fostering creativity, design thinking and critical reasoning, students will thrive in interactive learning environments. The addition of the Gary and Laura Robinette Center for Entrepreneurship reflects our dedication to equipping students with the tools they need to drive positive change and significant impact, shaping tomorrow’s leaders and innovators.”

Dr. Peter Holbrook, Provost and Chief Operating Officer added that “creating this learner-centered space encourages students to co-create and author their education, enabling Tiffin University to promote deep learning and student engagement that results in better learning outcomes. This interactive teaching and learning facility will further strengthen student-faculty-staff relationships, which are the foundation of learning, belonging and achievement in the constantly evolving landscape of higher education.”

“We have reached a significant moment as we celebrate the groundbreaking of the Center for Innovation and Learning. This marks a crucial turning point that will influence the future of education on our campus,” stated Mitchell Blonde, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Public Affairs. “We would also like to express our sincerest appreciation to our alumni and friends, whose generosity has helped propel this initiative forward. Together, we are laying a strong foundation for a future where innovation and academic excellence flourish, shaping the education landscape for generations to come,” continued Blonde.

Community members are encouraged to stay after the ceremony’s conclusion for light refreshments and the opportunity to socialize with other TU stakeholders, including trustees, faculty, staff and students. Renderings of the new building will be on display.
